"How often should I have you come?" is probably the second question I get asked most — right after "how much does it cost?"
The honest answer is: it depends on your home, your life, and what "clean" means to you. But after five years of cleaning homes in Woodstock, I can tell you what works for most people and why.
Bi-weekly is the most popular — and there's a reason
About two-thirds of my recurring clients in Woodstock are on a bi-weekly schedule. Every two weeks, same day, same time, same person — me.
Bi-weekly works because it hits a sweet spot. Your home never reaches that "oh no, when did it get this bad" stage, but you're also not paying for cleaning you don't really need. In the two weeks between visits, most homes accumulate enough dust, kitchen grime, and bathroom buildup that a professional clean makes a real, visible difference.
For a typical family home — two or three bedrooms, a bathroom or two, a kitchen that actually gets used — bi-weekly keeps everything in a manageable rhythm.
When weekly makes sense
Some homes genuinely benefit from weekly cleaning. If any of these sound like you, it's worth considering:
You have multiple pets. I love animals, but they produce hair, dander, and the occasional muddy paw print on a daily basis. Weekly cleaning keeps that under control, especially during shedding season.
You have young children. Between snack crumbs, sticky surfaces, and the general chaos of toddler life, a weekly clean keeps your home from falling behind.
You work long hours or shift work. A lot of my Woodstock clients work at Toyota or commute to London and KW. By the time you get home, the last thing you want to think about is cleaning. Having me come weekly means you never have to.
You simply prefer a consistently spotless home. Some people love the feeling of walking into a freshly cleaned house every week. There's nothing excessive about that — it's a quality-of-life choice.
When monthly is enough
Monthly cleaning works well for smaller spaces — a one-bedroom apartment or a condo where it's just you. It's also a good fit if you're someone who keeps a tidy home day-to-day and just wants a professional once a month to handle the things you don't get to — bathrooms, kitchen deep spots, mopping, dusting high shelves.
I'll be straightforward: monthly is the hardest schedule to maintain if your home tends to get messy between visits. By the time a month rolls around, there's more buildup, which means each visit takes longer and costs a bit more than if I were coming bi-weekly. Something to factor in.
One-off cleans for one-off situations
Not everything needs to be recurring. Sometimes life throws something at you and you just need help once.
- A new baby just arrived and the house hasn't been properly cleaned in three weeks.
- You're hosting Thanksgiving and your in-laws are coming.
- You've just finished renovating the basement.
- You're moving in or out and need the place spotless.
I do one-off cleans with no strings attached. No contract, no expectation that you'll book again. Although most people do — once you've experienced coming home to a professionally cleaned house, it's hard to go back.
How to decide
Here's a simple way to think about it:
- If your home gets noticeably dirty within a week, go weekly.
- If you can maintain things for about two weeks before it starts slipping, go bi-weekly.
- If you're naturally tidy and just want a monthly reset, go monthly.
- If you're not sure, start with bi-weekly. It's the easiest to adjust from — you can move to weekly if it's not enough, or drop to monthly if it's more than you need.
