It's the question everyone wants to ask but feels a little awkward about — how much should you actually pay for house cleaning in Woodstock?
I get it. Pricing in this industry can feel like a guessing game. Some cleaners charge by the hour, some by the room, some won't tell you anything until they've walked through your home and done a mental calculation you're not allowed to see. That's not how I work.
Here's an honest look at what house cleaning costs in our part of Ontario, and what you should think about when you're comparing quotes.
What most cleaners in Woodstock charge
Across Woodstock and Oxford County, house cleaning rates generally fall between $30 and $50 per hour. For a typical three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, you're looking at somewhere between $120 and $220 for a standard clean, depending on the condition of the house, the cleaner, and the frequency.
Franchises like Molly Maid tend to sit at the higher end — you're partly paying for their brand, insurance overhead, and the rotating team they send. Solo cleaners and independent operators (like me) are often more affordable because there's no corporate cut in the middle.
A deep clean — the kind where I'm inside the oven, behind the fridge, and scrubbing grout you forgot existed — costs more. In Woodstock, expect deep cleans to range from $200 to $350 depending on the size of your home and how long it's been since the last thorough clean.
Flat rate vs. hourly — which is better?
Hourly pricing sounds transparent, but it can work against you. If a cleaner is slower (or less efficient), you pay more. If they rush to finish under the clock, corners get cut — literally.
I prefer giving a flat quote based on your home. You tell me how many bedrooms and bathrooms, whether you've got pets, and how often you'd like me to come. I send you a number. That's what you pay. No surprises, no clock-watching.
What actually affects the price
Not every home costs the same to clean, and that's fair. Here's what moves the number:
Size matters, but not as much as you'd think. A tidy four-bedroom home can be faster to clean than a cluttered two-bedroom apartment. Square footage is a starting point, not the whole picture.
Frequency is the single biggest factor. A home I clean bi-weekly stays in a rhythm — things don't pile up, and I can move through it efficiently. That means your per-visit cost drops. A one-off or first-time clean always takes longer because I'm starting from scratch.
Pets add time. I love your dog. I also love that your dog leaves hair on every surface within a six-foot radius. Homes with pets take a little longer, and I factor that in honestly.
Condition of the home. If it's been a while — or if you've just had renovations — the first visit is going to take longer. After that initial reset, recurring cleans are much faster and much cheaper.
Why bi-weekly is the sweet spot
Most of my clients in Woodstock land on bi-weekly cleaning, and there's a good reason. It's often enough that the house never gets out of hand, but not so frequent that it feels like an extravagance. The cost per visit is lower than a one-off because the work is lighter each time.
Weekly works well for larger families, homes with multiple pets, or anyone who simply likes walking into a freshly cleaned house every seven days. Monthly is better suited to smaller spaces or people who keep a tidy home between visits and just want a professional reset once a month.
Solo cleaner vs. franchise — where does your money go?
When you hire a franchise, a meaningful portion of what you pay goes to the brand, the office, the manager, and the rotating crew. The person who actually cleans your home sees a fraction of your bill.
When you hire me, you're paying the person who shows up, cleans your house, and answers your texts. There's no middle layer. That's why I can offer competitive rates while still using quality, eco-friendly products and giving your home the kind of attention a franchise crew on a 90-minute timer simply can't.
